His Mercy

"His Mercies Are New Every Morning"

A Thought

In this life we can not always do great things. But we can do small things with great love.." :) Mother Teresa

Prayer Quote

“I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time- waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God- it changes me.”
― C. S. Lewis

Faith

I believe in the sun even when it's not shining. I believe in love even when I don't feel it. And I believe in God even when He is silent. (quote found on the wall of a concentration camp)

Our Parents

Our parents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in July. But the Party is Today.
How poetic that a Hurricane is blowing through at the same time. They have withstood many Hurricanes in their lives. But they didn't budge. We will not be at their party today, but our hearts will be there.

The first time I met Ed and Lois, I was a little scared. Especially since I was abit of a package deal. I came with 4 grandkids in tow.:)

I quickly found out that they were accepting of all of us and 4 more was no big deal.
What WAS a big deal was that I didn't know how to play spades.

I thought Ed was being nice to me when he gave me Jim for my partner and he took Mike.
He was really taking advantage of a chance to BEAT Jim at cards! :)
Jim nearly pulled all his hair out trying to teach me to play, but I finally learned, and Jim forgave me.

I was looking at old pictures of Ed and Lois and the time has FLOWN by. I can't believe how YOUNG they looked 20 years ago. :)

We love our parents, and pray that they have a wonderful Party with friends and family.
As of this writing, the winds are really blowing and it is raining and we did make the right decision to stay home, though we really are feeling sad that we missed such a big celebration.

Happy 50th Dad and Mom!

I Was Missing Jim Today

That time is coming. The Anniversary of Jim going to Heaven to be with Jesus.
It has been on my mind, and then yesterday, Elayne asked everybody to write her a tribute to the famous Minich Family Dining Room Table that they are inheriting and refurbishing from Ed and Lois.

You know, nearly every memory I have of Minichs includes Jim. The first time I ever met Jim we sat at that table and played "sort of" played Spades. He was my teacher for the evening... I still can't figure out if he was really annoyed with me or just playing. :)

Jim showed up at our house in Texas one day with Cindy, before He and Cindy got married so he could introduce her to us on the way to a friend's wedding. I always thought that was so cute.

Then there were the endless water ski camping trips where I was the camp cook. :)

Then, there was the famous "get his car fixed" trip he made to Texas 5 years ago. He ran into his Mailbox and came down to get a good job done cheap. He paid for the finished job, we took him to dinner and while we were gone a major hail storm totaled his famous Hemi Truck.

He got a better one. :)

The last ski trip we went on was great. Even Lois went, which is unusual for Lois, but it was meant to be. Lots of us together... enjoyed the wonderful day. On the Way home from that trip, it was announced that Steve Irwin (the crocodile hunter) had died in a freak accident. I was so sad for his wife and children; he was such a great and active father and his children were so young.

Then, the next thing we knew, Jim was sick. He had come down ill over the holidays with some sort of flu, and didn't feel better. By February, he was in the hospital with Leukemia.
LEUKEMIA? JIM? But it was true.

We went to see him and held his hand and at the last minute made a decision to let the girls go in and tell him they loved him. I am so thankful that we did that.

Less than 2 weeks later, Jim had a complication from the Chemo that caused a pulmonary embolism (?) and he was in intensive care. We got a call to COME, and we came. On the way up to Tulsa, we had our cell phone on and sang hymns and chorusus with our other family members and prayed for Jim. When we got there, he had stabalized. After staying a few days we went back home. It was such an empty feeling. We wanted to be there, but had responsibilites here. Being so far away really stinks. Then after 6 more weeks our Sweet Jim, quietly slipped into eternity. We left for Tulsa once again, this time, for our dear brother's funeral.

And as we drove home once again, I thought about what a great Husband and Father he was to Cindy and Emily.
It sounds silly, but I also thought about the Irwin's once again. (I always admired them) I was comforted by how they had begun to pick up the pieces of their lives after such a tragic loss, and knew that Cindy and Emily would do the same.

Jim left us with so many great memories. Every time we pass a lake, we cannot pass it, without thinking about Jim; we cannot see a "Hemi", without thinking of Jim and I cannot go to Red Lobster without thinking of Silly Jim sitting there with a bunch of plastic beaded necklaces he conned off of the waitress to take home to Emily.

If you are reading this and have brothers and sisters, don't forget to tell them how much you love them.
It may be the last chance you have, until we meet again.

If you go to my side bar and scroll down to "Fellow Family Bloggers", there is a Tribute to Jim. A youtube slide show.

Our dear brother Jim

We are so sad. Our dear brother Jim died of complications during the treatment of his Leukemia.
Jim was a great guy. He was patient and sweet and had a huge appetite. :) He worked it up by skiing
and wakeboarding on the lake nearly daily. He left behind a big hole in all of our hearts. We are really going
to miss you jim.

Back from Oklahoma

Mike and I and the girlies are back from our visit in Oklahoma. We stayed with Mike's mom and dad, and they were graceious enough to let us slip off for a couple of hours to have lunch and then go visit Jim, alone.

The girls baked cookies with gramma and grampa and took a walk to the park.

Jim is doing as well as can be expected but is quite miserable. He gets nauseated and has a terrible head ache and eye pain. HIs throat is raw and he can barely talk.
He is hanging in there.
It took all I had inside to keep from breaking down weeping when I saw him. I was able to hold his hand for a while and put a cloth on his head. That was a true honor.

I'm happy that Jim and Cindy know that we love them.
We were able to visit Cindy and Emily at their church and that made Emily feel special. She had 3 guests at sunday school today!
We followed Cindy back to the hospital and then from there Mike and I left to go back to Texas.

Leaving today

Today we are leaving to go to Oklahoma. Mike's brother Jim is in the hospital with Leukemia. It happened so fast!
He was fine, then he was sick. Really sick. Over this past week he has been on my mind continually, and we have been holding him up in prayer. There is a part of me that knows and understands that nothing happens without a purpose and plan, then there is this deep pain that keeps me on the verge of tears. It is a pain that doesn't want a loved one to suffer. Doesn't want him to have pain, worry, fear, nausea and all the other stuff that goes with being in the hospital with a terrible disease.
Then, again, there is faith. I have to continuously look to the heavenly father for comfort, that only he can offer.
My heart feels broken. This is Jim. OUR JIM! Our Jim who is so athletic, funny, sweet. Our Jim, our brother, our daughters previous foster father. Our Jim, the little guy who was barely out of high school when I met him.

JIM HAS CANCER! I'm scared for him. But I also trust the Lord that HE is in control, and like a shepherd will lead HIS little ones beside still waters, cause them to drink and eat of the bread of HEAVEN, for eternity, so I can rest in the LORD, as HE is the answer.
